Dave's Music Samples

Afternoon in Paris - A few choruses of improvisation on alto sax. The chord structure for this improv is taken from John Lewis' Afternoon in Paris. The improv is a first take, no over dub or punch ins...no studio tricks. The music exactly as I created it. For equipment junkies: The alto is a gold plated 100 year old Conn New Wonder.

Kaufman 1 - A solo improv recorded at a live concert a few years ago. The band is Kozora (a world music jazz fusion band) plus a tabla master from India. I am playing a silver plated curved soprano sax (Pan Am/Conn) which dates from about 1915. This band is totally free improvisation/no charts.

Kaufman 2 - Another solo recorded with the same set up and band as Kaufman #1. I've included some of the tabla master because I like his playing so much...enjoy.

This track of "world music" pairs my soprano sax with Kalimba (African thumb piano) and voice. It is a free, open improv with no charts or pre-arrangements. As such, it becomes an exercise for the players in listening as much as playing.
