Songwriting
After more than two decades of intensive songwriting, recording, and performing, I'm sharing everything I've learned about crafting indelible songs that move audiences and musicians alike. Drawing on my experience as founder and leader of the eclectic Americana band, Hoodang, as well as ongoing work as a sought after songwriting and guitar teacher, I try to bring a dynamic perspective and passion to each lesson. Two years in development, my songwriting curriculum is designed to accelerate your process of becoming a powerful and productive songwriter by teaching what matters most while helping you avoid the pitfalls that line the path to success.
As a multi-year member of the teaching staff at the Above The Bridge Songwriting Workshop I've helped over 60 students of all levels and interests make progress towards their songwriting goals and aspirations.
Beginning and Intermediate Guitar
Each year, I take on a limited number of beginning and intermediate guitar students for weekly or biweekly, in-person lessons. Students have ranged in age from 8 years old to 70+. You could be picking up the guitar for the first time or just ready to get beyond those first few years of being stuck on the basics. Either way there's no better time than now to make music a bigger part of your life.
Over the course of learning, we'll cover a range of topics including:
• The care and feeding of your instrument
• Chords (Open and Barre)
• Chord Progressions
• Strumming Patterns
• Playing up, down, and across your fretboard
• Hybrid picking technique
• The proper use of the capo
• Key selection (to suit your vocal range)
• Quick tips for learning songs
• Specific songs you want to learn to play
• How to develop your own style and interpretive flair
• Performance-proofing your songs for the stage
Songwriting and guitar lessons can vary in length based on your needs and budget (see pricing below). All lessons are designed and paced according to each student's age, skill level, and time commitment.
