Joe Reilly is a singer, songwriter, social worker, and educator whose way of working with children is empowering, inspiring, and educational. In addition to performing in dozens of schools, festivals, and venues throughout the Midwest and beyond, Joe facilitates songwriting workshops and has written many songs with groups of kids and adults in schools, community centers, churches, temples, festivals, and libraries. By sharing his own creative writing method, Joe is able to help others get in touch with their true selves and find the courage to express their voices.
"I LOVED working with Joe Reilly. He was amazingly compassionate, fun and easy-going. I was impressed by the way he integrated the students' words into music. One of the most challenging students in my field group came up with the title/chorus ("nature provides everything we need") and when Joe asked what seeds need to grow, he said "patience." It was wonderful to see this side of my student and it inspired me to listen to him better. I am so proud of what they created - I sing it to myself often."
~Instuctor, Islandwood School, Bainbridge, WA
Joe has been an artist-in-residence at the Islandwood School in Bainbridge Island, Washington (2011-2016), the Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education Conference (2010, 2011), and the Great Lakes Bioneers Traverse City (2010) and Detroit (2011, 2014) Conferences.
Joe has recorded eight albums of his music, including three children's albums, Children of the Earth (2007), Let's Go Outside (2011), and his most recent release The Circle (Earthwork Music, 2016). Children of the Earth was featured on National Public Radio's Living On Earth program in 2008. The title song from Let's Go Outside was selected as the official song for National Get Outdoors Day in June 2011.
