Now offering lessons at Oz's studio or at the student's home for their convenience.
Mike has a Bachelor of Arts in Music with minor in psychology from Oakland University (2002) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law (2007). Despite this diverse education, Mike has found a niche for himself teaching piano lessons, and enjoys working with students.
Mike is fluent in classical piano, acoustic guitar, and is also a singer/songwriter. With regards to his songwriting, he placed as a "runner up" in the 2009 "Song of the Year" Contest, an international competition sponsored by VH-1.
Mike has over 12 years of experience teaching piano lessons to both children and adults. He takes pride in being able to successfully convey musical concepts to all different personality types. He is especially good at working with children, patiently exploring to find the teaching approach that best works for them.
With regards to lesson format, typically, for beginners, Mike focuses on reading music and technique. As the student progresses, music theory concepts such as scale construction, key signatures, chord building, as well as creative aspects of music such as arranging, playing by ear, and songwriting (if the student expresses an interest) will be introduced to the student.
Vision for the student: to experience the pleasure of making music regardless of skill level!
Rates: $30 per thirty-five minute lesson. Discounts are available for families with multiple students taking at the same location.
